Season Reflection: For More or For Less?

season reflection

How About Both. More Abundant Living. Less Complicated Life.

Taking time to retreat (last month’s theme) often involves time to reflect. There are three things to reflect on that will help you move forward into the next season of mountain living. A season of thanksgiving, hope, and new beginings. The holiday season.

Reflect On Thanksgiving- Gratitude

It just so happens that the Holidays kick off with Thanksgiving Day (we’re just not ready and willing to give Halloween true holiday status).

And for mountain lovers, Thanksgiving is often when many of us start heading to the slopes. Reflection is the alpenglow. That sweet space of time when we sit around the lodge (or in the car driving home) and reflect on the fun and beauty of the day.

Taking time to reflect on everything you are thankful for will fill you with gratitude. It’s hard to quantify the value of having a full tank of gratitude, but here are a few benefits you can bank on.

  • More Friends
  • More Health
  • More Mercy
  • More Sleep
  • More Confidence
  • More PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)

Reflect On Christmas- Hope

By the Christmas holiday, winter is in full swing with short days and long cold nights in the mountains. What a great way to bring hope and light into what could be a cold, dark season.

Many of us head to the mountains with family and friends for Christmas break. Mountain resorts are full to the brim. Shops and streets are decorated with all the trim, with the smell of holiday goodies filling the air. No wonder it’s been called the most wonderful time of the year.

Reflecting on things hoped for and things you have not yet seen will increase your faith, your trust, and your positive outlook on life.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder states-

“Hope is a process of goal-directed thoughts that reflects both the belief that one can find pathways to the goal and has motivation based on one’s perceived capabilities or thinking.”

Being full of hope has many of the same benefits as gratitude, plus a couple of add-ons like:

  • Less Stress
  • Less Depression
  • Less Emotional Turmoil
  • Less Unmet Expectations

But the best part is that we can spread this hope to others. As much as Christmas gives many of us the warm fuzzies, there are those who may be feeling a little hopeless. Let’s invite them to share in our hope to brighten their days.

Reflect On New Years Day- New Beginnings

Of course New Year’s resolutions are no accident. They are the result of reflecting on our past year and looking forward to new beginnings. The clear cold mountain air of a New Year day can give breath to new goals and aspirations.

Reflect on challenges of the past year. Some you overcame, some you have yet to conquer. Remember the thrill of victory as well as the agony of defeat. You’ll feel that gratitude and hope well up, like water bubbling out of the ground from a mountain spring.

Be refreshed by the wonder of experiencing yet another year of life, and sobered by how short life in your earth suit really is. Be inspired to make the most of the new year to come, knowing it is a gift to be cherished.
