Recreation
Recreation is our theme for the month of July. Fun is another word that comes to mind. When we recreate we are re-creating. The joy we get from playing in the mountains is one of the most energizing forces for our wellbeing.
This time of the year opens up some of the most popular mountain recreations. In higher elevations, snow has receded to reveal high mountain meadows. Trails have dried and hardened for mountain biking.
The days have lengthened for long hikes and rock climbing. Even when we are in the middle of the work week, many of us find time to squeeze in a little mountain time.
Here are some ways to get the most out of every way you choose to recreate this month.
∆ Unplug
Many of us are plugged in for much of the day. When you go to the mountains to play, limit your device use to useful Apps for you chosen activity, or for safety such as in emergency situations.
Every so often you might even leave your cell phone home. It is good for your soul to be totally unplugged from the grid and plugged into creation.
∆ Play Outside
Even if you can’t get into the mountains, there is your own backyard or local park you can play in. Yard games are great ways for families to be together. Toss a Frisbee, football or horseshoes.
∆ Visit a National Park
Add a sense of awesomeness to your favorite mountain activities. Plan a trip to one of our great National Parks. Many of them feature great access to some of the most famous mountains in the United States.
∆ Mix It Up
By all means enjoy your favorite recreation, but also be open to try something new. Hikers can rent a mountain bike. Climbers can challenge themselves on a ropes course.
Try a new location. Maybe there is a trail you’ve never hiked or a cave to explore and experience the complete absence of light (it’s a real trip to be in complete darkness and experience mind tricks).
