How To Chart Your Course

What is it you want to accomplish in your life right now? What mountain of life do you want to summit?

No matter what goal your mind has come up with, you’ll need a way to reach it. Those who love to spend time in the mountains have already learned what it takes to accomplish a goal.

You can use these lessons from the mountains to chart a course to scale any mountain in life. Maybe it’s a business venture, learning a new skill, a successful marriage, or staring a family.

Sometimes a mountain is put in front of us that we never planned to scale. Injury, health issues, financial setbacks, a breakup. There is a course that will navigate you through these as well. You can find it along with the support you’ll need to walk it out.

Follow the same steps we took in creating Summit Surprise to map out your own course in life.

charting the subscription box route

Every summit of a mountain begins in the mind with a thought. A desire to accomplish something meaningful. That thought gives birth to a process in our mind that eventually leads to a plan on how to do it.

The thought of creating a perfectly crafted mountain escape in a box led us to the question of, “How do we do it?” We began to map out the steps we needed to take in order to launch this idea into reality.

It’s really no different that charting a route for a hike, bike ride, or technical climb. Thankfully, most of us can find a map that someone else has created and easily choose the best route to get us to our desired destination.

So that’s what we did.

1. know the end goal

Where do you want to end up? Some call this a vision. For us, the first goal it is to launch a successful mountain inspired subscription box with 200 subscribers.

2. know how to get there

This step begins to define your intended strategy. It’s your mission… the who, what and hows. It’s like pulling out a map and charting your course. If you can find someone else who has done what you want to do, see if you can benefit from their experience.

We have the benefit of our son and his partner. They had launched several successful subscription boxes and were generous enough to share their strategies with us and others.

3. what are the expected results?

Along the route there are landmarks. Identifying your landmarks keeps you on track and lets you know where you are in the process. These are the expected results that can be measured.

How many visitors to our Pre-Launch page? How many shares? How many signups? What is the conversion rate? All these measure how well we’re doing and where we might need to make course adjustments.

move out and head up

Once you have you course charted, then it’s time to define tasks, decide who is responsible for each job, and what they will do to achieve the desired goal.

Step by step you begin the journey with a clear vision of where you’re going, a mapped out course to get there, and a way to measure your progress. The summit will be in sight. Soon you’ll be on top looking for the next mountain to scale.
